About The Book:
Effectively measuring the usability of any product requires choosing the right metric, applying it, and effectively using the information it reveals. Measuring the User Experience provides the first single source of practical information to enable usability professionals and product developers to do just that. Authors Tullis and Albert organize dozens of metrics into six categories: performance, issues-based, self-reported, web navigation, derived, and behavioral/physiological. They explore each metric, considering best methods for collecting, analyzing, and presenting the data. They provide step-by-step guidance for measuring the usability of any type of product using any type of technology.

FYI… MRU World Usability Event

Posted by: calgaryux on: November 8, 2011

Brian Traynor (Associate Professor, Information Design, Faculty of Communication Studies) at Mount Royal University has put together a wonderful event for World Usability Day. They have invited various UX professionals from around the continent to present and share ideas around this year’s theme of Education.

The intent of the evening is for students and professionals alike, to learn about some current best practices in Usability. Participants will speak for about 15 mins and then take some questions. All locations will be connected in a synchronous environment via a videoconference-like setup. There will be a mix of students (Information Design, Computer Information Systems) and of course some Calgary UX practitioners.

Detailed Schedule:
5:00 – 5:10: Introductions
5:10: User Insight (Eric Holtzclaw, Denver/Atlanta) –  Social TV Personas – recent research
5: 30: iStock Photo (Sona Khosla) –  FEAST – Mentorship Program
5:50: MOB4HIRE (Paul Pautenan)  -  Crowd-sourced User Testing
6: 20: MIT IT (Chris LaRoche, Boston) – Encouraging Usability at Universities
6:40: City of Calgary (Paul Taylor) –  Website design transformation at the City of Calgary
7:00:  Wrap-up synch session (goodbye to Boston & Denver/Atlanta)
7:05: Open discussion, Q&A if desired
Adjourn for drinks locally

Where: Mount Royal University, Room Y324 (Videoconference room)

Getting there… If you are unfamiliar with Mount Royal, the best place for you to park is at the visitor parking by the West entrance. As you enter the main building, take an immediate right into the Y-wing. You will need to go up one level to the third floor.

Can’t make it to MRU that evening? There will be a number of ‘ports’ available for people to attend remotely.  Join any time during the session. Here is the Guest Remote Access Link: https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?password=M.27C696A0E491AC5622A97401483767&sid=2011305

Schmooze & Booze – October 26, 2011

Posted by: calgaryux on: October 13, 2011

It’s time for our Fall Social! Whether you’ve been at every Calgary UX event or just haven’t had the chance to come out before, this is one you won’t want to miss. Since you never know what kind of weather we’ll be enjoying, we offer the following: Warm up with stimulating conversation or chill out with a frosty brew.

When: Wednesday, October 26, 2011
Time: 6:30pm to Late
Where: Barley Mill Eatery & Pub (201 Barclay Parade SW)

The Schmooze & Booze is a low-key event for the Calgary UX community, for whom “social” means any of the following:

  • Talk about what you do, beyond the answer to the question: “UX? what’s that?”
  • Argue the finer points of your favorite prototyping software.
  • Or just hang out and have a drink or some chicken wings!
